Jammin' January, Championship
    February 3rd. 2007
    By Tom Kuper

For the second consecutive year, Diamond Bar Girls Softball organized Jammin’ January, a winter league that affords high school girls an opportunity to compete prior to the start of the high school season.  This year, twelve teams from Diamond Bar and surrounding cities participated.  The league utilizes a unique format where teams play two to three games each weekend for four weeks, and then compete in a double elimination tournament that spans the last two weeks of the league.  The teams were high caliber and evenly matched, and the girls enjoyed many competitive games that kept their supporters on the edge of their seats.  The tournament produced its share of exciting games, and culminated in a championship game pitting the San Dimas 51/50’s against the Diamond Bar Diamonds.  It was only fitting that this final game would be hard fought, and indeed the teams played to a 5-5 tie at the end of regulation play.  An international tiebreaker was needed to determine the champion, and congratulations are due to the 51/50’s, who prevailed in the final inning and earned the first place trophy.  We commend all the girls for their effort and sportsmanship, and we hope they enjoyed the experience.  We wish them good luck as they begin their high school season!

Congratulations for outstanding play to both teams and all the teams that helped make Jammin' January a success.
